Presbiopia is an alteration that becomes evident when the eye-lens, which is the natural lense of the eye, loses its position. The eye normally adapts to different distances. When it is at rest, it can see distant objects sharply whereas, it needs to shift the focus in order to be able to read a newspaper or watch the screen of a computer. This mechanism is called “accomodation”. Through presbiopia surgery, the eye-lens is replaced with a multifocal intraocular lenses, that allows for an easy focus at different distances.
