It has recently been published in a major magazine of the specialty among whose author is Dr. Sergio Escobar, an international consensus, which has set new directions for the use of botulinum toxin type A. The consensus recommendations were provided for nine indications, including lower eyelid wrinkles, bunny lines, drooping nasal tip, perioral wrinkles, masseter hypertrophy, drooping mouth corners, dimpled chin, platysmal bands and de “collete” wrinkles. The consensus recommendations included the number and location of the injection points, dose range of each point and the total injection, as well as specific injection techniques. This agreement also established anatomical injection points for each particular site, as well as the corresponding doses to minimize possible adverse effects. The work represents an important advance in the field of aesthetics associated with the use of botulinum toxin.
